There is another story by thistlerose that sounds similar to the second one you mentioned. I'm not sure if it is the one you wanted: A Show of Strength (http://thistlerose.livejournal.com/1281389.html#cutid1). Bones doesn't try to save an ambassador's life, but instead, asks a question during a treaty signing and is whipped because of it.
