startrekficfinder | Prison Fics?!

Hi everyone! So, I'm pretty new to this fandom. Just watched Star Trek Into Darkness a few months ago at the request of a friend of mine (of course we watched the 2009 beforehand) and...I fell in love. Hard.

Since that time I've watched all the TOS shows, and movies, and now I've moved onto fanfiction. (sorry harry potter fandom, I've left thee behind :(

I'm still getting used to the different sites that host fanfiction other than FF.net, so I'm coming here for this request, because it's pretty narrowed down and I find the aspect of searching for something like this quite daunting. So, here goes the request:

I just got done watching "The Shawshank Redemption" with my boyfriend (he looooves movies like that. I think we've watched The Green Mile a thousand times...) and, I couldn't help but wonder what it would be like if Spock or Kirk were to land in prison for some reason or another? I know Kirk goes into a Klingon prison in that TOS movie with the Klingons, can't remember which movie that was right now; but what I really want to read is a prison!fic that explores the more angsty side of being in prison; much like "The Shawshank Redemption." Only, with our star trek boys! I want something that has a rich story, and preferably with one of those two characters spending a considerable time there. The angstyier, the better. Graphic violence doesn't bother me. In fact, I'd be disappointed if it didn't have those things since we all know what happens in prison, and to me, to do an angsty prison fic properly, you need the violence... Please, no fics where kirk or spock just spend like a day or a month in prison. I would like to see something a little more fleshed out.
Also, if possible, I would really like to see this in the reboot universe, but TOS is fine as well.

BONUS POINTS: if it's Spock that's in prison instead of Kirk. Not only do I prefer hurt!spock over hurt!kirk, but something just seems oddly appealing with the idea of Spock being put in a situation like that, given that logical, non-violent brain of his. however, Kirk is perfectly fine with me as well!
BONUS POINTS: if it's K/S as the main pairing. I don't have a problem with K/M or even S/M, but I'd really prefer K/S.
MORE BONUS POINTS: If this fic is going to make me cry. I cried like a baby in the green mile, and shawshank redemption (at the end).
EVEN MORE BONUS POINTS: If it's looooooong. I've got a hard on for long, detailed fics. and by long, I mean something over 50k please, but...i'll take what I can get.

WIP are more than welcome as long as the author is at least updating consistently. If it hasn't been updated in a year, then please don't rec it. I hate getting invested into a fic and then having it stop on me ***cries***

MissBAMF's Perdition Series: Closing Walls and Ticking CLocks part 1. It was recced to me a couple months ago because like you, I also enjoy a good hurt!spock fic. It's got all of your bonus points starting with Spock being the one that goes to prison, and no...he doesn't just spend a day there..............

It's probably the angstiest fic I've ever read, and yes, it does have quite a bit of violence, like...the most graphic scenes I've ever read, but I think that has to do with her detailing Spock's emotions and thought processes throughout that makes it all the more painful.

However, the author does a great job of depicting those scenes for what they are, violence. She doesn't turn it into a fantasy. There is non-con, but again...it's done tastefully, and not glorified.

Sadly, it is a WIP, but the author does update regularly per your request, and, she is very interactive with the readers, which I find refreshing in fanfiction. It also meets your request for a long fic. Right now I think it's at 330 to 340k? so...it's very long, and if I'm going to be honest, it's probably one of my favorite fics in this fandom at the moment. The character development is amazing, not only does she do a fantastic job with the main characters, but her OC's? Probably the best OC's I've ever read. She really takes the time to flesh them out, and make you care about them.
The writing style grips you and pulls you in and makes you feel like you're watching a movie. You WILL cry, that much is certain, but you will also laugh, and you will also smile. I've never felt so many emotions while reading a fanfic, so I've got to rec this on that aspect alone. I'm telling you, you WILL NOT be disappointed because the plot is so much more than just a prison fic. Anywho...sorry for the rant, I'm very invested in this fic right now so I let my mouth get away with me when talking about it. I think I check my email five times a day to see if it's been updated. Hey rant away!! If it's able to inspire this kind of energy, then it's probably worth a shot! I have to say, what you've said about it definitely makes it look promising in my eyes. 330k just makes my mouth water hahaha. I will give this a try! Good thing I've got 5 hours to kill......

I've got another one for you! Can't believe I forgot about it. It's not Abrams verse, but it's still very, very good, and also very, very dark. believe it or not, I've read that story! I saw it recced on here in an older post when I was searching for fics. It is, very, very dark, but an awesome story! Perdition is amazing too...I'm already on like chapter 16 (been reading all day) and it's very well-written. Thanks again for reccing it!

I just finished reading this last week and I think it will be well received by you. Ship of dreams it's called.

It is not a prison fic, but a spock!slave fic. There is violence, non-con, brutality, and a level of realism that makes it difficult at times to read. The author really did their homework and it shows. The first few chapters are a little weak but once you are in the main story all will be made up and so much more.

Nothing about the slavery or non-com is gloried in anyway. it looks at brutality without blinking, presenting dark realities that really exist. Basically the whole thing is hurt!Spock and hurt! Kirk in equal measure.

She shatters them both in such believable and painful ways. It is only together that they stand a chance but not much goes to plan. The story ends in what is considered a happy way, but our heroes are not the same men as they were at the start. I will leave it up to you to decide if it was worth it.

The story even manages to have a few rather sweet moments and through back story show us the early building of Spock/Kirk relationship.

This is not a romance story or anything like it, it is about two honorable, dutiful men put in a terrible situation who are willing to compromise their own selves for the potential greater good. the question is what can survive in the process and success is never a given.

Also it is for a considerable length of time and the events that go down during it will affect our characters for life.

I know I did not put up a basic plot but it better to experience it as our characters do, if you decide to read.

The story is a decent word count and complete.

HEY! thanks for the rec! This sounds like a great story that I definitely want to read! slave fics work just as well as prison fics. It sounds kind of like the fic I'm reading by missbamf right now. Because damn, I have never read something so painful and realistic in my life. Of course...it doesn't help that I'm marathon reading her fic, but it definitely throws the characters (mainly spock) into a very, very horrible situation...and it's watching him endure this situation that makes the fic so gripping.

Ship of Dreams sounds amazing, and after I finish perdition, I will definitely move onto that! Thank you so much!!!!

I see that you've already been recced a bunch of great ones! Ship of Dreams is great, definitely read it, and Perdition is just beyond words for me on epicness. Here is another one that is just gutwrenchingly heartbreaking!! I don't think it's over 50k, but, it's still worth the read...very much so. It's about Spock and Kirk in prison, and the POV is different. You'll enjoy it!
