Kirk part of SF Intelligence/Black Ops

Am desperate to find a fic I read before that takes place post-Narada at the Academy and then at the start of the 5-year mission. I've searched A4, the KSArchive, and recs posts with no luck.

Points I remember:

-Spock is asked by Pike to follow Kirk around (to see what he's doing, decide whether to become his First Officer?), and observes Kirk being a BAMF in various ways, bonding with the crew, etc.
-Kirk has been quasi-forced into being part of Starfleet Black Ops/Intelligence, going on mysterious missions that leave him injured.
-As a result of his black ops work, one of the early Enterprise missions is for him to go undercover with a team to infiltrate/assassinate/something on another planet; the whole crew is worried and can't get him out of the mission/black ops.
-Kirk/Spock pairing

Possible parts of the plot:
-Kirk is being abused by a member of the team
-Kirk nearly dies/is gravely injured as a result of this mission, maybe betrayed by abuser?
