TOS Fic scene stuck in my brain

I have this memory of reading a tos fic where Kirk does not get command of the Enterprise until after the M5 incident.  He was First Officer on one of the attacking ships, and contacts the Enterprise to talk the computer into shutting down during the battle.  I can't remember any more of the story, nor where I read it and now it is stuck in my mind, I hope someone can point me in right direction.  Thank you!
