I've been looking for this everywhere and haven't been able to find it: Spock and Uhura have broken up and he goes to the observation deck (I think), where Kirk and McCoy find him, comfort him, and take him back to their quarters.

reboot fic/s

I'm looking for a reboot fic that has Kirk anticipating the epic friendship he's supposed to have with Spock. The buildup's gradual and quiet, and I think there's some invitations to chess games and/or evening meals. There's a scene where Kirk asks Spock something along the lines of "Is this it, the supposedly epic friendship, starting?". I don't know if this is in the same fic, though: Spock and Uhura break up, quietly and amicably, before Kirk and Spock get together.
