Kirk is a tech or something at starfleet (not actually a cadet) and is abused by some cadet (maybe gary?) and Spock saves him one night.

On that note, any fic where someone saves Jim from getting picked on/beat/bullied if you would like to share! Here's one that I adore by d8rkmessngr, Standby where McCoy comes to the rescue.
