I definitely second That Which They Defend; it's an absolutely gorgeous story.
Also, if you don't mind self-recs, I wrote Memories that Paint Your Face (http://tocourtdisaster.livejournal.com/53343.html): He dreams of open plains and of a city on a hill, of mountains and horses and brothers-in-arms, never realizing that his dreams are memories.
