there is a very long, very excellent WIP by 13empress that has a scene like that near the end of where she has hopefully only paused. It involves young versions of Kirk, and Spock, and Nu Trek Kirk and Spock, facing the Narada again in a different time line. The ship is badly damaged, and Kirk calls for evacuation, planning on doing what his papa did. Hmm, I was describing more, but backspaced. That would be a spoiler if I gave it away, grins.
