I'm looking for something very much like So Wise We Grow, but not exactly.  Basically, I remember a fic where Kirk and Spock rescue/shuttle (?) a shipful of Vulcan children - much like Breaking Points - and Kirk manages to single out a little boy who's getting picked on because he displays emotions, mostly because he's younger and hasn't learned the control yet.  I remember all the Vulcan kids playing some sort of logical game of Pick Up Sticks on the floor, too.  The crew of the Enterprise pretty much falls in love with Kirk's little Vulcan friend, and Scotty builds him a little chair to match Kirk's towards the end.  I'm pretty sure that there's a developing relationship between Kirk and Spock throughout this whole thing, and in the end, they decide to adopt the little Vulcan.

Any other suggestions in this genre (uh, that would be the "Largely Featuring Vulcan Children") would be very much appreciated as well, especially with a side of Kirk/Spock.

This story is called Life in the Neutral Zone (http://www.fanfiction.net/s/5105792/9/Life_in_the_Neutral_Zone) and you are specifically looking at chapter 9 where Kirk and Spock meet the young Vulcan in questioned named Pa'tar. ^_^

At least I think that this is the fic in questioned.
