Special Vulcan robe

Hi everybody!
There's a scene from a fic in my mind that I can't place, will someone help? It's a conversation between Spock and Jim where Jim puts on a robe he's been given by Amanda. On it is a Vulcan animal of some kind. Jim thinks the robe would fit Spock better and asks him to try it on. When Spock does so the robe changes, displaying a different animal, and Spock explains to Jim the tradition surrounding such fabric, and also why his mother had given the robe to Jim.
That's all I've got. I suppose it's an TOS fic, also (obviously) K/S. Does anybody know?

Could someone direct me to this particular melancholy ficlet, please?

Jim and Spock prime had a quiet conversation during a spock/uhura (married with kids) family gathering  - jim is burdened with the memories of prime!kirk and prime!spock and saddened that he couldn't have that with his own spock but finds solace at spock's happiness with uhura.

and spock prime deeply regrets that those memories bled through during the meld in delta vega.
i think jim comforts spock prime and said something about .. at least he gets to experience being loved even if it's in his own mind?
