Kirk/McCoy long fic

Hi again! 

I am looking for a really long Kirk/McCoy fic.  I think I remember bits and pieces where McCoy thinks things about different universes where he was Len instead of Leo and he got married and was happy or whatnot.  He had still married Joc but never had Jo.  He had a really snarky Southern grandma who had been a ballet dancer or something.  He really loved his horses back in Georgia.  He has some kind of mishap while he is doing research and nearly dies of an incurable disease.  Jim has a really strained relationship with Winona.  He doesn't like to go home.  He thinks Leo's gramma is hilarious.  He still ended up on Tarsus IV.  He still ended up leading the Enterprise.  Spock Prime turned out to be from an entirely alternate universe, not the future of the universe they were in.  I hope that is enough.  Anyone have any idea?

Change of pace

I am in the mood for some non-regulation Kirk badassery! In that vein, I was hoping that people might know of some fics where Kirk kicks butt, but not as a Star Fleet officer (at least not at first). I would love fics where he decided to use his particular brand of awesome in a different way, like say as an ship designer or linguist or something. As long as the story remains centered on Kirk being cool, and it is set in the movie universe. I know this is oddly specific but I hope there are some fics like this out there.I have been reading a lot of fics with an under-appreciated Jim Kirk lately and I need a change of pace. Please help!
