I think this one might be a toughie as I only remember this fic in bits and I think before LJ (yes, there was a world before LJ, LOL).

FANDOM: ST VOYAGER
CHARACTER FOCUS: Tom Paris
GENRE: Gen
CLUE: The Voyager encounters a field or debris that needs to be carefully piloted around. It's up to Paris' skills to steer and he's up every shift, utterly exhausted but needs to stay by the helm.
