crew as family

So, I kinda had this idea in my head of the crew of the Enterprise being a family, and Kirk being kind of like the fiercely protective dad or something like that.  So I'm looking for any fics which might emphasize or suggest that sort of relationship, either from the Captain's point of view or the crew's.  Maybe Kirk mentors a young crew member, or maybe the crew helps him through some crisis because that's what he does for them.  Or whatever.  It was TOS that gave me the idea, but 09 fic welcome as well if it exists.  Gen or slash (K/S preferred) welcome, but bonus boints if Kirk and Spock are co-parents.  I hope that it's not too strange and abstract a concept and that someone out there can help me with this request.  If not, then I challenge you to write it.  I might take a go at it myself.
