So, I'm fairly certain this is three stories, but it might be only two:
1. Spock is assigned a mentor when he gets to the Academy. Spock thinks that he's finally made a friend, but then finds out his mentor actually doesn't like him and shuts the guy out...
2. Spock can't keep a roommate for various reasons--one finds the silence creepy, one can't stand the incense Spock uses to meditate, Spock's study habits interfere with another roommate's 'social activities'...it ends up that Spock is finally placed in a single...
3. Spock is assigned a mentor who is James T. Kirk (he went to the Academy at the 'normal' age and is now like a Lieutenant or Lieutenant Commander)...
And any other mentor-centric Kirk/Spock stories that can be recommended: slash, gen, whatever.
