Spock/uhura and Uhura character recs!

Ok -have been a big time slasher in this fandom but I just want to try out something new.  I  wanna give Spock/Uhura a try but I don't know where or what to try. Is there any mustreads like Home in the Kirk/Spock reboot fandom that would make me like and appreciate the couple?

Also I like Uhura in the reboot movie and think she is ok but I didn't love her like I did in the original series. So any fic that would be character based and give insight into the reboot character would be awesome. Thanks in advance!

Well, if you want good character introspection in fics, I'll have to point you towards kitausu's fanfic. Her characterisations in fic are pretty much awesome (especially for Uhura, Winona and Chapel, and pretty much all female characters). I do have to warn you that Uhura is mostly paired with female characters, such as Chapel, Gaila, etc., but if you don't mind that, you won't be disappointed.

Some of the oneshots in the So Called Chaos Series: Index (http://archiveofourown.org/series/1630) by Jedi Buttercup also have good Uhura characterisations, though they are all genfic.

But to be honest, when asked for good Uhura introspection fics, the first two that come to my mind are annenburg's Recognition and kitausu's "I am Freedom", so...
