Reboot ST - after movie, how StarFleet/Kirk recovers?

I'm sure this is easy for someone but I just can't figure this one out. It's takes place after the movie, Kirk is running around helping everyone graduate, is teaching/subbing one of the classes, he get's the Enterprise and the crew he wants, and somehow, he's an SEAL/killer for some Admiral on the side. Kirk keeps trying to get out of it and ... Okay, this is a giant fic and I'm not sure what I'm mixing with other fics but I remember his past as the only surviver of the destruction of the colony planet while he was 14 is dealt with. I honestly don't think the fiction was finished for some reason ... but I think it has multiple chapters/stories in it. I want to say the writing style was smooth, descriptive, yet wordy?

Does this sound familiar to anyone or did I dream this thing up?

If you like AU's then there is a massive one that is beyond fantastic, but it's based where the Kirk/Spock meet in high school. Let me tell you even if you don't typically go for that type story all you have to do is read the first story in the series and you are hooked for life. I'm including the link in case you'd like to join the addicted. :)

I have heard of it, and the only reason I haven't read it yet is because of college. I know my self too well, and if it's a fraction of how amazing the things I've heard say, then I'm not going to stop reading until I finish, which means no sleeping/studying/going to class. DX.

You're right! My two oldest have cursed me repeatedly cause I told them if they weren't hooked by the middle of the first story I'd leave them alone about reading it. Needless to say they were and are anticipating the next story in the verse. :)

Let me know what you thought of it when you do get to it. I'd say this would be a wonderful prize for finishing the semester.
