T'pau adops a baby/young Jim kirk and raises him on vulcan

The story i'm looking for was based on on a couple requests on a star trek meme. Jim is somehow adopted by t'pau, raised on vulcan  and is allowed to be human. I believe jim is a baby or really young when he is adopted.  I remember there being baby ducks following jim around in the story. I don't remember if the word "ducks" refers to actual ducks or if the vulcan children following jim around are the ducks. That is really all i remember. Please help!
