startrekficfinderI thought this was on the reboot kinkmeme, but I can't find it, and I've gone through all the delicious links.
George doesn't die, and he and the Kelvin rescue Nero from the Narada. Nero is head-injured, and mute. Nero stays with George and Winona and guards baby Jimmy like Sgt. Bothari from the Vorkosiverse. Eventually, Nero also enlists and serves with Jim when he's all grown up.
It ends up being Nero/Jim.
