Awesome Kirk?

I'm hoping you good folks might rec me some TOS fics where Kirk is awesome. You know, fic you come away from saying "Yes! That's why they gave him a star ship!" It doesn't need to be the whole fic - that could get into Mary Sue territory all too easily - but something with at least one scene where Captain James T. Kirk demonstrates that, yes, he really is that good at his job.

:) Great minds... Actually, I just read that last week and it's what triggered my "Kirk as the Captain" quest. I'm still going 'guh' over how amazingly well written that story was.

(I was going to list it as my "like this" example, but then I realized that at +300,000, it is not exact something a person can skim through in a hurry.)
