The scene I'm remembering is between Kirk and Uhura : Kirk is displeased with Uhura's performance because she did not give him a resume of what to expect on an away mission.

Uhura says (paraphrasing here) : I do not have to do your work for you. You're supposed to read the reports.
And Kirk answers : I don't have the time to read every d*mn reports that cross my desk. You're supposed to give me the main points. That's your job.

The problems between them had been escalating since the start of the 5 year mission...

I don't remember if it was gen or slash. I think it was pretty long, and it really described the evolution of Kirk in his role as Captain.

I've been searching AO3, but no luck :-(
