Kirk, Spock, on being first officer

There's a fic from a while back - I'm not sure where I read it, since I've hopped platforms and sites about a hundred times since then. There was this one bit that talked about how being first officer isn't all that easy since it's basically being messenger between the captain and the crew and that the captain got the praise and the crew's adoration but the first officer had to deal with the complaints and day-to-day operations with a lot recognition than he deserved.

Sound familiar? I'm fairly sure it's Kirk/Spock, but Pike could have been involved somewhere. I'd dig it up myself, but you know how much stuff is under the K/S tags.
