Hurt/neglected!McCoy fics

So I’ve been reading a lot of Kirk/Spock fic, which is always fine and dandy, but lately I’ve been running into the stories in which Bones is your typical “background character,” in that he isn’t a key component to the story and thus the reader (and in many of the fics I’ve read lately, Kirk and Spock as well) is naturally inclined to forget about him.

Being the giant masochist that I am, this pattern triggered my “OMG HURT!BONES” feels and now I’m in the mood for fic of that nature. (I’m open to both TOS and nu!Trek fics.)

Basically, I’m looking for fics where any (or all) of the following occur:

--Bones feels like the “third wheel” in relation to Kirk and Spock (K/S can either be an established/growing relationship or just friendship)
--Bones starts to feel lonely or hurt that Jim is starting to spend more time with Spock than with him
--Kirk and Spock start building a relationship and for whatever reason don’t tell Bones, who finds out on his own and is hurt (to whatever degree) that they didn’t tell/trust him
--Similar to the above: Bones finding out about Kirk/Spock, but contrary to popular belief, NOT having a problem with it (and possibly wondering why everyone thought he would)
--Bones struggling to build a better dynamic/friendship with Spock, for whatever reason (and maybe not being all that successful at first)
--Bones feeling left out among the crew in general

…Wow, okay, my hurt!Bones feels are apparently very specific. :P But in general, I also love anything with a good and balanced Kirk/Spock/McCoy dynamic (and whether that means purely friendship or a deeper relationship is up for grabs, I’m open to both).

Anyway, if anyone can think of any fics that fit this kind of criteria, please send them my way! I’ve tried searching for this kind of stuff myself, but it’s hard to narrow it all down and pick out the right ones.

I can recommend some good kirk/spock/McCoy threesome fics that sort of have a left out or emotionally isolated McCoy

Very well written)

I only know it because she wrote it for me for Trekmas (shifty), but it features Spock and Bones looking for missing!Jim in the wilderness and dealing with each other for several days and the fact they're both in love with the big lug. It's AOS, in case that matters, and winds up Kirk/Spock/McCoy in the end.

Has anyone found any fics that are NOT a Bones/Kirk/Spock threesome and just a Kirk/Spock with Bones angsting/worrying/being protective over Jim?? I've been looking for a fic like that for SO long but have had no luck so far. The recs provided were good but I'm really not into the threesome idea so much, idk why..

Hehe, it's come to the point where I'm starting to write one myself. xD I don't know when it will be finished, but I have it all mostly planned out. If I remember I'll try and send you the link, or at least post it in a comm somewhere you'll find it clearly. :)

Oh exciting! Yes please do I'd really appreciate it. I've been looking so hard for a good, long McCoy heavy Kirk/Spock without it being a threesome. Not as easy as I thought it would be lol I have to say that Kirk/Spock are SO my OTP. This Spock/Uhura nonsense has done nothing to change my mind lol even if I do love me some Uhura. And there is no greater friend to have in the world than Leonard McCoy, so I adore the Kirk/Bones friendship. Even the love/hate relationship between Bones and Spock is perfect, so I'm just looking for that one, awesome fic that has it all : )

Totally! What you just described is what I've always wanted to find too, but either I haven't been looking hard enough or it's just not out there atm. xD What I have planned overall is more or less a McCoy-centric fic that sort of follows him from the beginning of the five year mission, as he begins to notice the development of Kirk and Spock's friendship and later relationship. In addition, I also wanted to explore the possibility that McCoy might feel alienated in general on the Enterprise, as in Kirk was the only one he knew really well from the get-go and once Kirk starts to drift from him he begins to realize how few actual friendships he has available to him. Sort of a whole "character study" fic. UGH I'M SO EXCITED BUT I HAVE SO LITTLE TIME RIGHT NOW ADSKGDSLG

Anyway, I'll keep working on it when I can and try and finish it BEFORE the end of the year, lol.
