So I was (re)watching Star Trek 2009, and it finally hit me that all the years Spock spent on Vulcan being disparaged for his human mother must have had at least some impact on him, whether he's aware of it or not. Even though he's a total BAMF in those early scenes (an in general), you don't grow up being told half of your heritage is a "disadvantage" without it being internalized on some level. Probably doesn't help that he's then basically the only Vulcan around in a sea of humans.

That's a really rambling request, but if there's anyone out there who knows of anything that deals with this topic, send them my way, please! It doesn't have to be the focus, just a part of the story. Anything and everything is fine, though if you can find a Kirk/Spock one, I will love you forever (with cookies).

I don't know about fic recs on the subject, but in TOS episodes there's a constant refrain of Spock proclaiming how superior Vulcans are, and McCoy needling him by comparing him to a human (and making nasty cracks about Vulcans), and Spock responding by saying please don't insult me (by comparing me to a human).

Although, for my money, the most douchey bit of xenophobia in classic trek is the moment at the end of The Wrath of Khan, where Kirk is giving Spock's eulogy as they're about to shoot his body out into space, and Kirk says "Of all the souls I've encountered in my travels, his was the most ... human."

Wow! I thought it was just me.....I always believed that to be a totally xenophobic remark. It is as though the best and only compliment he can give Spock is that he was "human". They touched on that subject in The Undiscovered Country when the Chancellor's daughter mentioned that even our language is xenophobic; "inalienable rights" "human rights" etc...

But yeah, I would to read a story that deals with this topic also.
