This is a long post so I thought I would put it behind a cut.
I've been making myself crazy trying to remember a page that a lot of older, originally zine-only TOS (I think) stories were archived on. My oldest daughter is getting into Trek fic, after the most recent movies, and I want to rec several of those older stories too her. Only I don't remember that much about them and all of my links vanished when I lost my bookmarks a few months back. I really believe I'm looking for a page where previously zined TOS stories are/were available.
I have a distinct memory of one of the stories; Jim somehow came back from the dead as the young man he had been when they met, and Spock, now older, went into spontaneous pon farr upon seeing him. This was considered proof that Jim was who he said he was. The pon farr episode was brutal, because it was unplanned? Jim asked Spock to clean him up before letting McCoy into the room to treat his injuries; he didn't want his old friend to see him like that.
At another point in the story Jim was promising himself he wouldn't get fat again, but Spock had some private doubts. I think maybe Jim didn't have the technological savvy to be a captain or serve on a starship anymore, so he and Spock went back to Earth to sail an old-fashioned ocean ship, maybe studying and keeping track of sea life, like the Humpback Whales they had brought back during a mission (like in the movie). They eventually had children together in a sequel. For some reason I think the author's name was or contained the word 'grey' - but I can't find it at all, or the page I think these stories were gathered on. I would be deeply grateful to anyone who can point me in the right direction.
And now for the specific fic. I asked about it on Star Trek story finder a few months back but no-one recognized it. In it Jim is still suffering from his time on Tarsus IV; he's willing to eat anything and his table manners are a little rough. Someone - I think Gary Mitchel, maybe? - takes advantage of this by mocking and belittling Jim, making him super self-conscious and uncomfortable about it. He and Jim had a thing in the past, where Gary (?) physically and sexually abused Jim and Jim accepted it thinking he couldn't do any better and/or he deserved it. When Jim stands up to him and refuses to renew that relationship Gary(?) drugs him and gets him up to his hotel room -- only several crew members are aware that something is wrong and tell/call Spock, who rescues Jim. And at one point Chekov offered Jim some borscht to try, and he's really willing to try anything, as long as it's food.
I'm beginning to think I imagined that one. Please, tell me I'm not crazy, just annoying :-)
Mods, I hope I have tagged well. I didn't include Gary Mitchell because I'm not sure I've got the right character, and I wasn't sure the fanzine tag applied. Thank you for giving us a place to come to in our times of ficcy need :-)
