I've spent the whole weekend trying to find this specific fic and coming up empty handed. An alien species has been testing other alien life forms to determine if they're fit to be contacted by setting loose a disease on a few members of the Enterprise crew to see how humans react. (The crew members were Bones and Chekov). The aliens observe the crews reactions by temporarily inhabiting different crew members minds. While all this is happening everyone is desperately trying to find a cure for the fast acting disease. Chekov ends up dying and so does Bones but then they're brought back to life because the aliens had seen what they had come to look for.

Can anyone else remember this fic?
