plotty AOS fic recs?
May. 6th, 2014 06:35 pmHey, probably weird request going to happen.
I'm looking for fanfiction with legitimate plot, preferably with implied or obvious Spirk, more kudos for logically reasoned science. It doesn't really matter if it's AU or not, and I would prefer adventure genre, but any other will be good, as long as author has fine grasp of heroes' characters and/or witty sense of humour.
My absolutely favourite is "Leave No Soul Behind" by whochick, not so closely followed by "Celebrate the Earth and Sky" by Aerlalaith and "Shore Leave" by narukyu, to give you some idea of what I'm looking for.
I already went through Action/Adventure tag @AO3, but I know there are awesome fics posted untagged, and then there are ksarchive and FF.net and livejournal, and it's sort of tricky to single out fics with the action in the foreground, so... help?
Also, looking for Enterprise's departments-centered fics with Captain/CSO/CEO/CMO interacting with their minions (ideally, Spock in his scientific habitat), but so far I haven't seen anything even closely resembling these parameters.

Date: 2014-05-06 03:14 pm (UTC)There is also j's magnum opus, Observations (http://anon-j-anon.livejournal.com/30674.html). And when I say 'magnum', I mean bloody massive: 262 chapters for 1,102 pages of utter perfection. I really hope its length won't discourage you from reading it. No words could do this story justice, but believe me when I say it'll change the way you experience fanfiction like, forever.

Date: 2014-05-06 03:29 pm (UTC)You could also take a look at waketosleep's Don't Pick Our Destiny (http://archiveofourown.org/series/685), and distractedKat's Atlas (http://archiveofourown.org/works/652116/chapters/1187249). They also wrote West of the Moon (http://archiveofourown.org/works/826785/chapters/1570059), which has a most intriguing summary, but I haven't read it yet, so I can't actually rec it!

Date: 2014-05-08 10:45 am (UTC)I think I've read "Atlas" when it was being posted at ff.net; and stumbled upon "West of the Moon" couple of times, but the summary actually scared me off every time: the idea of Jim being part of criminal syndicate seems inherently wrong to me.
And thank you very much for link to "Observations", this one looks very delicious :)

Date: 2014-05-06 03:49 pm (UTC)There are also the fantastic "Spoctoria series (http://archiveofourown.org/series/5176)" by screamlet (http://archiveofourown.org/users/screamlet/pseuds/screamlet) and waldorph (http://archiveofourown.org/users/waldorph/pseuds/waldorph), the "Finding T'hy'la (http://ksarchive.com/viewstory.php?sid=3410&warning=2)" by CMM (http://ksarchive.com/viewuser.php?uid=6505), the "Checkmate" (http://ksarchive.com/viewstory.php?sid=3045&warning=1) by Tlema (http://ksarchive.com/viewuser.php?uid=6137) and the amazing "West of the Moon (http://archiveofourown.org/works/826785/chapters/1570059)" by distractedKat (http://archiveofourown.org/users/distractedKat/pseuds/distractedKat). There are all K/s, long and very plotty!!!
I'm sorry for any mistakes, english are not my mother language :(
Enjoy,

Date: 2014-05-08 11:05 am (UTC)I haven't read any of those fics, except "Spocktoria" series (which is awesome in it's own way), but they all seems to be relationships-centered, are they not? Well, except "West of the Moon", which I'm a bit worried about, as I've said earlier, because criminal!Kirk? Wouldn't it be kinda OOC of him?
Anyway, thank you very much for recs!

Date: 2014-05-06 09:29 pm (UTC)I love K/S in all its glory but I am also a die hard sci-fi reader: Cate Adams' stories, as mentioned above, ticked all the boxes, for me. There is another one, only on KSA, which I will look for when I'm not in the middle of booking London hotels for a Comic-com (lucky me!)!!!

Date: 2014-05-21 09:47 pm (UTC)you can go to Ao3 and look the story up under missBAMF. Like I said, it's the only story she's got going right now, but damn is it awesome...it's becoming one my favorites, and I typically don't read WIP's until they are finished.
It is dark though.
