ST and STID with a Kirk/Spock pairing?
Sep. 15th, 2014 11:27 pmHello I'd really love to see some Fics that follow the events of the recent movies but with a Kirk/Spock pairing.
I'd also love some recs for good, long, intense reads, the absorbing plot driven, filled with character development Fics that suck you in and don't let you go until they're finished. Don't care if they are a hundred words, a hundred thousand or more, I'd just love some good Fics right about now.
Would love any Kirk and Spock end up with a kid, mpreg, adoption whatever. Anything goes apart from rape please. X
Feel the need to read a few Into Darkness Fics that focus on the crews feelings when they heard Kirk was dead, what went through their minds before they realised they could save him, happy endings only though please, not in the mood for heartbreakers. ^_^ xxx

Date: 2014-09-17 12:31 am (UTC)The Door, by Pouxin, is a great story that tells the events of STID, from an evolving K/S perspective. And it's got some angst too.

I can come up with some recs for your other requests, just not today (way past my bedtime already), but off the top of my head at the moment, Home Also I cannot Go, by soonanemone - has MPREG, really well done, long, angsty, lots of character development - https://www.fanfiction.net/s/5391402/1/Home-Also-I-Cannot-Go
So Wise We Grow, by Deastar - K/S, the son Spock didn't know he had ends up on the Enterprise - http://archiveofourown.org/works/55410/chapters/73479
Problem Child, by TDazz - K/S, the son Kirk didn't know he had ends up on the Enterprise! http://ksarchive.com/viewstory.php?sid=4907&warning=1
Homecoming, by Beedlebard (and it has a sequel, Homecoming II - you can find it easily from the first story) - K/S, with kids, well written character development - http://ksarchive.com/viewstory.php?sid=4527&warning=1
Don't Stop Believing, by kianspo - short prequel followed by a much longer main story, mostly Spock centric until Kirk enters in later chapters, angsty, lots of character development through Spock's time at the Academy & beyond, evolving towards K/S - http://archiveofourown.org/series/13631
I'll come up with some more when I have more time to think about them.

https://archiveofourown.org/works/1442989
Now, there is a lot of non-con in this, but it's not glorified (to me, anyway), and it is pretty essential to the story. (it is an angst fest, so if that's not your thing, stay away) I sort of find it refreshing though that finally there is someone out there who will depict these scenes for what they are instead of detaching us by skipping past everything and going straight to the comfort portion. This author really has a way of putting you in the character's shoes, and damn did I cry so much reading it.
the second one also has non-con, but again, it's not glorified, and it is pretty important to the storyline. It's called How We Operate, if you're interested. It's not complete, but she updates pretty consistently. She started back in august I think, and it's already 110k...

Date: 2014-09-17 08:20 pm (UTC)I started out reading Harry Potter before moving on to other fandoms, I think the amount of harry gets raped by his uncle, random men or others, has prejudiced me towards Fics like that having good plot development and character growth. It's a very overused plot point in fandom to up the angst in a fic, think a lot of people don't think before adding it to a story. I've read very few Fics that made me think differently, so hopefully this one you have recced me will make me change my mind. ^_^ thanks again for the recs! can't wait to read them. X

Date: 2014-09-17 09:19 pm (UTC)It gives fics that actually address rape as a violent action, and not a fantasy, a bad name. perdition does have a lot of rape in it. I'll just be upfront about that, but given the environment, it's not anything I wouldn't expect, and, what I like the most about it is that the rape is handled realistically, and with real, true consequences. I've actually read comments to the story from victims of such acts commending the author for how she handled the scenes.
But again, if graphicness is something that turns you off...stay FAR away from perdition. It's got the most violence I've ever seen in a story, but damn is the plot and character development the best I've ever read.
I too want a good kid fic!!!!! There are like...NONE out there! I will be watching this post to see if anyone recommends any.

Sorry, I haven't had time to think up some other recs for you yet - on the weekend, I suspect!

Date: 2014-09-22 01:33 pm (UTC)Ok, for Reboot I'd recommend Intimate Knowledge by TDazz - around 100 000 words, post STID, mainly K/S character development, with some Sarek & McCoy (not together!) on the side.
http://www.ksarchive.com/viewstory.php?sid=3597
Prequel to it is Comfort Food, a shorter story (around 20 000 words) not necessary to have read it before Intimate Knowledge, but it's enjoyable & it has a lot of Spock angst & characterisation post Vulcan's destruction.
http://www.ksarchive.com/viewstory.php?sid=3551&warning=2
Not an Island, by fourleggedfish, is a complex, intense fic about Spock developing as a person after the destruction of Vulcan. It's fairly dark and edgy in places, but my biggest warning is that it's unfinished, & likely to remain so. Hasn't been updated for just over a year, and the author pretty much just stopped writing it.
Second warning is for some non-con towards the end of the last chapter (although I haven't read it for a year, so pay attention to the chapter warnings, in case I forgot something)-it's not graphic though. If you're willing to commit despite knowing this, it's well worth the read - I was fascinated by it.

One with MPREG & kids, An Unexpected Journey, by CMM http://www.ksarchive.com/viewstory.php?sid=3935
and it's sequel, An Unimagined Destiny, http://www.ksarchive.com/viewstory.php?sid=5811
Long, K/S angst, MPREG, cute kid, drama - has it all, and it moves along at a nice pace - easy to stay interested. One of my favourite authors.
Maybe Once, Maybe Twice, by Regann, is post STID, Kirk centric, currently unfinished but updated last month, so hopefully will be soon.

The Finer Things by IvanW is a WIP being regularly updated, I like it because it draws in plots from TOS and fits them to reboot. Otherwise the summary is self-explanatory, so I'll let you check it out.

I don't know if you're interested in TOS or not - if so, I have a couple of good ones -
Portraits, by Charlotte Frost, is about 80 000 words traversing the journey from Spock's second pon farr through to Kirk & Spock developing a relationship. It's a bit drawn out and let's-analyse-our-emotions-to-death in places, but overall it's a good story. I was captured when I first realised what direction the beginning was taking,
http://www.ksarchive.com/viewstory.php?sid=3607
My second rec for TOS is the Sharing the Sunlight series, by Jenna Sinclair. It' comprised of 14 stories, including three that are novella length. The first, Sharing the Sunlight, details the beginnings of the K/S relationship, and the whole series follows through to after the end of the five year mission.
Promises to Keep is especially angsty & detailed. it's probably possible to read some out of context, but they make more sense if you read them in series. Again, they lean a little toward the teenage girl style of romance writing, but it ticks all the boxes for long, intense, plot driven and character development.

Puff the Magic Dragon, by test_of_faith, is a short story, 5 000 words, but a nice read. http://www.ksarchive.com/viewstory.php?sid=940
I'm sure I'll think of something later I should've included - I'll come back & update if I do.
