I'm looking for a A.U. Star Trek: 2009 story where after the situation with Gary Mitchell, Spock is tasked with looking for anyone else who might not be psi-null. He discovers that Lieutenant Jim Kirk has a telepathic ability of persuasion, which he unknowingly uses to get his way. Spock starts to suspect this at Gary's funeral. When he confronts Jim, he finds out that the seemly happy go lucky Lieutenant has a huge depth of self-loathing, and all his trips to sickbay after "accidents" on away-missions were failed subconscious suicide attempts. Jim denies this. I didn't read much further, but that was like the first three chapters. Jim was going to fly a shuttle into a star on a suicide mission to save the ship, and I know the story ended in Kirk/Spock. I've been looking for days, but I can't find this. I really think it was on LJ. Does this sound familar to anyone? Please and thank you! Found by illariy: The Boy Who Always Smiles by ![]() |
