Early Spock and Jim Relationship Building

Ok, I am new here and really happy to have found this place. I am looking FICs that focus on the early building of Jim and Spock's relationship.

1) Relationship has rocky or unsure or antagonistic start but they learn over time how to relate and get along (and maybe that they love each other)
2) So I love slash Kirk/Spock but this is not a requirement--the friendship/pre-slash building is the important part
3) TOS or AU is fine
4) The longer the FIC the better
5) Slow builds own my soul

I love Atlas. I will have to check out Veritas (seen the name around b4) and heard good things about "Home." WIP make me nervous. Is the ending happy? does it end GEN or Slash?

it starts off with them friends, but does end with slash. There was a plot point she introduce when she stopped updating, but as I said, and as many of the reviewers also feel; the story could end happily where she left off. There is no graphic sex scenes though, so if that's a must...I would steer clear. Other than that, it's well worth the read. Veritas is amazing, definitely check it out.

There does not need to be graphic sex or anything (though that has its own place I suppose). I care mostly about the story and to know that there is a decent ending even if all plot theards are not tied up.

then I think it would be perfect! Sorry, I felt the need to point out the sex thing. I've seen some K/S fics get slammed for not having sex scenes (why in the world people would complain to the author about their choice to write sex is beyond me) but I wasn't sure if that was a must for you. I to, don't have to have a sex scene to enjoy a story. In fact, in some instances, it can take away from it.

That comment before was from me. Not sure why it did not show my user name. I so agree with your comment here. I have notice lots of fics get a lower reviews for lack of sex but the important is the story. Random forced sex can detract from a great story if it just there as a token scene. Every part do the story must have some thing emotional point/something at stake/something driving/some consequence because otherwise it wastes of screen time. Not that is not to say sexual scenes have no place or value, but they need to be employed in meaningful ways. Sometimes a simple kiss or holding can be far more meaningful/intament/powerful/more rewarding than tons of graphic sex scenes.

For example "as wise we grow" handled it so utterly perfectly. There is a reason it is a hallmark of this fandom.

I totally agree with you! sex can really cheapen a fic for me, if it's not used correctly. Sex, to me, has to be built up too, and handled delicately. And you're right, sometimes a simple gesture is all a scene needs to make it perfect. I have not read so wise we grow, but i hear great things. I really need to read it, like yesterday, lol.

You will be so pleased I promise. For tie length, insight, character development, pacing, oc, natural progression of k/s relationship and all around awesomeness. It is a stunning story that gets better with every reread.

Kianspo's "Don't Stop Believing" comes to mind. It's a very, very slow build, but...it is WIP. She just updated in may, but the characterization of Spock is excellent, and is probably one of my favorite fics despite it being WIP.

sadly, she doesn't update regularly. This last update had been several months coming...so, if WIP are not your thing, I definitely wouldn't read it because you might be waiting a while. The reason I liked it so much was the spock characterization, and the way he converses with Kirk in the story, how his feelings slowly change. It hasn't gotten to the actual K/S though, so, if that's upsetting, then perhaps just keep an eye on it and wait and see if she finishes it.

I read the start and it looks like such a good find. I have it bookmarked and will continue to watch it. I dearly hope the author keeps going; there is so much potential.
